Dr. Alexa Zalopany-Casey (Doc Z) is returning to the New River Valley area to work with independent practitioners Lynne Reece LCSW, Fred Mignone LCSW, Maureen Ritter LCSW at 159 Walters Drive, Christiansburg, VA. Ipracticed in the area from 2004 through 2007 and provided psychological services to adults and children in the area.
For the past three years, I have been working with the Army/Department of Defense in Germany at one of the top federal hospitals----Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. I had the opportunity to work with Active Duty and Retired Military and their families--often addressing issues related to PTSD and impact on the entire family system.
I have worked extensively with families exposed to trauma, both primary and secondary trauma, and I addressed how trauma impacted on the family system. I found the work with families to be rewarding and while trauma is difficult and challenging it can also be a path to self-awareness and enlightenment. I am skilled and experienced working with all age groups---but I have a specialty working with children and adolescents.
My office is in Christiansburg but I will also be available for online therapy if you prefer or if it is easier for you.
I plan to work with returning vets and work collaboratively with the local VA and other support networks that center their services on the needs of returning vets. Integration can be a significant problem with veterans both within the family and community. I have found that addressing stress within a context (family, community) and developing resiliency is a significant focus for me now. I am experienced and skilled working in most areas impacted by stress including addictions, family conflict/divorce (including child custody evaluations), health related issues as well as emotional and behavioral based issues for both children and adults.
